The inaugural Fulton In Residence tour took place from November 28 through December 4, 2021 in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
Rehearsals for the tour began during the fall, with FIR students preparing both solo repertoire for outreach concerts and works to be performed in collaboration with students from the University of Hawai'i.
Rehearsals continued in Honolulu for the final tour concert on December 3 with musicians from the Univesity of Hawai'i the program featured concertos for violins by Bach, Vivaldi, and Teleman and concluded with all of the musicians performing together in a piece by Ravel.
The Hawaiian and Fulton students all benefited from many masterclasses over the course of the week. FIR students played for Hawai'i Symphony concertmaster Iggy Jang and University of Hawai'i at Mānoa conductor Joseph Stepec. Local students and chamber ensembles played for FIR director Addison Teng.
Between rehearsals, masterclasses, and concerts, FIR students experienced the culture, history, and natural beauty of Hawai'i. A hike up Diamond Head (pictured) gave them a bird's-eye view of the island. Plenty of time was spent relaxing on the beach and enjoying local cuisine. Students spent one morning visiting Pearl Harbor, experiencing first-hand the site of such an important part of American history.
Stay tuned for where Fulton In Residence
will travel next!
