The third Fulton In Residence tour took place from November 19 - 27, 2023
in Oaxaca, México.
After months of preparation apart, and a long day of flying, Fulton faculty and students finally arrived in México and were greeted by volunteers from our host collaborating organization, the Orquesta de Cuerdas de San Augustín, who provided a home for them within walking distance of their school.
Each morning started with individual practicing followed by rehearsals and teaching at the school in San Augustín. Fulton faculty and students helped teach lessons and coach chamber music for the local students, and everyone joined together for orchestra rehearsals in preparation for their joint concert in San Augustín.
The tour culminated in two concerts. The first was a recital of FIR faculty and students at the Centro Cultural San Pablo in Oaxaca. The second was at the Centro de las Artes de San Augustín, where FIR students played in the orchestra of the Orquesta de Cuerdas de San Augustín in addition to being featured soloists alongside FIR and Méxican faculty members.
Between rehearsals, teaching, and concerts, FIR students experienced the culture, history, and natural beauty of México. The FIR students visited the pre-Columbian archaeological site of Monte Albán, visited an agave farm to learn about important local agriculture, and even tried their hand at making tortillas!
Stay tuned for where Fulton In Residence
will travel next!
